Awaken Spring throughout the land anticipation is rampant we long for the vernal equinox that magic first day of winter's end when the hours of day equal the hours of night but I fear this year spring's gown will be frosted with white crystals for winter is stubborn and lingers the nights still bitter cold the days with a nip in the air tulips carefully planted refuse to surface the daffodils lack vigor trees remain barren of blooms except for the flowering plum tree covered in pink and defiant as if to say... follow my lead, come forth, do not fear the sky will once again be blue the birds will look for leafy green branches hummingbirds and butterflies will seek nectar let us burst forth in joyous anticipation soon my blossoms will be no more spring is such a short season revel in it while we can this is our time to lead the parade winds of March blow off spring's gown dissolve the icy crystals dress her in glorious colors scent the air with flower's perfume to entice the birds to sing let April showers cleanse the land lift the spirits of all the people bring the children back outside to play allow them to roll on green grasses pick flowers for mommie's bouquets daises spring forth for fair maidens to recite, he loves me, he loves me not defy winter, and shine spring, shine. |

All the flowers that refuse to spring forth before spring gives them the word are hunkered down. They will come, and with a vengeance will they come. The countryside will sing their colorful and fragrant glory. ~ My grandmother is over eighty and still doesn't need glasses. Drinks right out of the bottle. ~ |

Marcia, in South Africa, especially in Durban, where I live, there is not a great deal of difference in the seasons, but your poem makes the northern hemisphere USA change of seasons very real to me. I hung on every word of this. Beautiful poem! Owl |

there is such an anthem-like quality to this one...come down south where we have had flowers to bloom and radiate in their glory, having passed on to that flower heaven in the sky...so enjoyed the write...nicely done |
