I am here--deep within the bowels of raw, My name matters not! I live like a mole. My duty? Transport your beleaguered soul . . . but it's not like you are going to a spa. I have gone about doing my duty for centuries, and I know my job well! I direct souls where they will at last dwell Fair maidens, nay, here there is no beauty. Hermes, my predecessor, became lax, Found out he had feelings! That could not be. For special favors he would lose the key, the ferryman, Charon, must have for tax. Kings and Queens, I have handed to Charon, to drift down the rotting River Styx. They whimpered and cried, but I knew their tricks, To no avail! My heart is made of stone. The lost ones are beginning to understand . . . drifting down the putrid river to Hades. Sensing while here, they can expect no aid, all is lost, they have joined Lucifer's band. I usually stand near the bank to hear the anguished as they drift by Cerberus. A three-headed hound, with a nose of pus, close to Sisyphus, whose work is severe. Tantalus stands in water, amid fish . . . cannot drink nor eat, not even a bone. Listen to the tormented, as they moan, pondering their desire for one last wish. You think me and my detestable crew exists only to mete out punishment; For your ignoble and ugly descent? Yes! You are right, I anticipate you. ~ After twelve years of therapy my psychiatrist said something that brought tears to my eyes. He said, "No hablo ingles." ~ |

Ah, did you ever watch What Dreams May Come? This brought it all back with your poem, and you did a mighty fine job, in my humble opinion. Thank you. |

No, I missed "What Dreams May Come." I checked Hulu, but they don't have it. It sounds pretty good, although I am not a Robin Williams fan, I will try to find it. Thank you, Sunshine. ~ After twelve years of therapy my psychiatrist said something that brought tears to my eyes. He said, "No hablo ingles." ~ |

Dear Jerry, you did a great job with this one ... This piece of mythology leaves always a great impression on students ... though of course I tend to visualize a different scenery for my soul's journey (back home) Love, Margherita |
