Lonely Girl Forlorn and standing tall In an empty dockyard basin Bent and rusted rails By broken fallen walls Stood the lonely crane Below her seized up wheels And piles of mixed up cables Lay her rusting tracks That moved her back and forth She'd suckled many ships That docked along the pier And lifted all the cargo's Until her day had come No ships, no men, just rubbish Drifting down the wharf. |

Wow, this came as a surprise! Love this very much! A mighty strong girl she was. (pssst ... I do believe she heard you and sheds some rusty tears ...). Great! Love, Margherita |

This is magnificent, beautiful and oh, so sad. At first I thought you meant a bird, and I was confused. Then I realised it was a metal crane. I am going to create a Johan folder to go with all my other Pip folders, and this will be the first to go into it. I am fascinated at a Johan in the UK! Are you from The Netherlands, Germany or South Africa orginally - or your name, at least? Owl |

When I saved this, I discovered that you are Andrew Shiston. The mystery deepens. Are you an admirer of Johann Sebastian Bach? But then he had 2 n's, so although you may be, I don't suppose that is where the Johan came from. Owl |

A very sad and undignified state of affairs for a hard-working 'girl' who had spent her life servicing others. A fantastic write! Your personifation near brought tears to my eyes! ~ Truly! Sending a hug for the tug and for you, EA |

Oh so sad, a lament for an old derelict crane, many such lying about in the harbours Johan ! You will know. Strikes me how you see sadness and compassion for things people would normally walk past. Enjoyed this dear friend. Katriona |

Nice...I've seen many an old cranes taken down by welders torches and other cranes and riggers to ease their falls...and then back to the steel yards to recycle into an automobile or the structure of a building or perhaps another crane...James |

A fascinating write, a wonderful tale of the once mighty dockside crane. Even in rust, they are magnificent. Thanks for sharing her. |
