Most nights I sit watching a perfect sun set over the mesa- wide, dreaming of a place, new to hang my hat should I wander from this place to greener pastures by the sea, A lake with Loons, How I love Loons! Pattering rain on a tin-roof, or snow frosting a window, north My reverie ended, "We're here" Children, grandchildren and pets. Passing hugs, telling jokes, ice-cold drinks, firing the grill. Laughter through old Bryce Canyon , Gentle tugs "Where is your hat, Gram?" A hearty reply... "Right where it belongs, love Right where it belongs." |

Mmmmm! I realllllly enjoyed this. I am a grandmother too, and though I have never seen a loon (we don't get them amongst the thousands of birds that we do get in South Africa) I love them too. You should look up Magnus' poems about loons. You would love them too. Owl |

Thanks so much, I will do that. Well, I am a New England girl transplanted here in the desert where, of course, we do not have loons. But how I remember and love the song of the loon Jan |

jbstillwater - those Loons do have a way with singing what they sing. When at the lake one can hear them saying their words... BC |

Fellow PIPpers, you are now in the company of two of the finest poets on the planet - JBStillwater, AKA Janet and HeartToHeart - AKA Katriona. Both are dear and revered friends of mine. I've not met either in person nor have I spoken to either by phone and yet dear Katriona knitted a gorgeous Nordic sweater for me and Janet has published my poetry. And that, as Edith Ann was wont to say, is the truth. "And every time I've held a rose |

I live in the land of the loons (some would say loonies ). Many a night I have been lulled to sleep by the call of a lone loon on the lake. ""Where is your hat, Gram?" A hearty reply... "Right where it belongs, love Right where it belongs." ~ Yeppers! Home is where your heart is. Giving you a big hug and a warm smile, EA |

Oh loons, such mysterious and magic birds, they make the perfect poet idols. We have many loons in the woodlands where I live, and I love to sit and listen to their plaintive cries in evening, almost spooky. Lovely poesy Jan, says a grandmother to another grandmother Katriona |

This is so ... so complete, perfect and I can so much relate to the dreaming of other places, but meanwhile my hat is somewhere up in the skies chased by different winds. Your conclusion has such a great impact, though it was stirred by a gentle tug. Rome fits me perfectly, but my two sweet little grandsons are in Belgium ... and my heart is often roaming the Swiss Alps ... you see my hat is in the storm of indecision. Enjoyed your work deeply. Love, Margherita |

I really enjoyed this. I dream sometimes too of other places...and when my granddaughter is snuggled in my lap, I know I too am where I belong. |

Thanks fellow poets: Marg, I feel the same way sooooo often. And in my younger years my hat also blew over the Swiss Alps, Italy, Germany. But now I am home in the desert and have my memories. My hat is now tethered (lol) Thanks so much all of you for taking the time to read and like this poem Jan |
