A Poem as Lovely as a Tree |

When glow of sunset pink defines the edge Of cypress trees and rows of hemlock hedge Before it melts into the floral hues Of lavender and periwinkle blues When stretching shadows gather field and lake Into their arms as though a dire mistake Consuming every color high and low And wrapping them in darkness as they go When some say poetry can never be As splendid and as lovely as a tree I say, let creeping shadows of the night Douse every limb and every leaf in flight Then when the twilight has erased the day Let pretty little stars come out to play And write a poem the width of heaven’s face Til dawning purples rise to take their place Elizabeth Santos 7/5/2009 [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (07-05-2009 11:33 AM).] |

Much more than lovely, dear Elizabeth, this is sublime. A tree is pure beauty, but when you give it a voice and include it into a song in honor of the splendor of the whole nature, then poetry is given true heights. Just what you have done here, dear Poetess. Wonderful! Love, Margherita |
