What does the mirror of our sensitivity tell us? Those of us who look into that glass will find that we have sensitive souls that are very often too sensitive. Feelings are the baggage that weigh one's sensitivity. And sometimes they are so acute that we protect ourselves but shutting them out. And sometimes in the course of our human journey we find ways to manipulate our sensitivities into feelings that we can live with. But in order to do so, it is just like the killing of the of deepest feelings of all, but then we might just be too sensitive for that. |

This was a very timely post for me. I facilitate a support group for individuals with depression and bipolar disorder. The emotional sensitivity issue was a conversational topic brought up by my members this evening. It was interesting to hear from them how building walls and often accentuating that sensitivity dialectically was the only way to emotionally survive. I believe that sensitivity is a problem for many in our culture, not just those with disorders, and it would certainly be easier if this were a more collectivistic nation (U.S.A.). Nice, thought provoking poem. May I have your permission to share this with them? [This message has been edited by Clang (07-02-2009 07:17 AM).] |

I totally share the ideas and thoughts of the poem...We can't alas authorize ourselves to the deep of our sensitivity...This is a beautiful poem that I will keep inside of me...thanks for sharing. yann |

Yes nodding my head in agreement, but perception of sensitivity changes too Old Poet, with moods for instance, talking for myself now. Thought provoking write, unlike your usual style, I'm happy to read this one from your always nimble hand. Heart2Heart |

I enjoyed and understood, in both senses of the word, this lovely poem of yours, Old Poet. I lived probably the first third to a half of my life in the same vein. However, in my 63½ years, I have changed my choice. I no longer allow my feelings to be amputated, and I live with the consequences. In fact, I wrote a poem about it called Laser Surgery. I think I have posted it before, but will repost it, in case you would like to read it. Sometimes, I nearly regret my decision (like today at work), but then I think of the alternative, and quickly accept the negative consequences for the sake of beneficial ones, which I will not give up. It is probably a lot less wise than your choice - the tears flow often - but I am happier - and sadder - but mostly happier - this way. Owl |

very interesting.I have found through my years that what any one thinks of me is their business. So I do not fret over who likes or does not like me.In this way I have many friends. And if any one starts to tell me something about what some one else said, I ask them please not to repeat it as I prefer to learn form the person themselves. If they do not tell me I will not ever know and thereby will never be hurt. latearrival |

Well, here it is! Yes, wonderful poem, John. It made me stop and think and I have come to the conclusion that killing of the deepest feeling of all would take an incredible amount of courage and time. I have tried it and it never works. Maybe I am not trying hard enough. Jan |
