In quiet snow is drifting ashes from ideas engulfed on bone dry winds of time, strain of years bending soul's burdens, braided pains I earned along a pilgrim's way; constant is the drain of now, of life upon my energy, running on reserve these past few years, closing eyes that dreams remind saw too much of death enshrined in justice as defined by politicians' greed feeding upon ideologues' rank insanities; crumbling worlds distract me from all but karma's harshest memories of being someone else's instrument of grief, love of a land's future burning in bitter oils of belief; I would prefer to walk again, sanctified in lover's hands, on sands warmed by understanding not yet cooling from dishonor's chill in shadows of my country's darkness growing. ©2009 by icebox |

Sounds as though your soul has grown over many lifetimes and gained a world of understanding this time around, Charlie. I believe as we advance in this earthly classroom our lessons get harder. Some of us appear to be in college now. Ida |

a most effective, thought provoking 'write' ... fine imagery and commentary on the 'Runaway American Dream' ... "I would prefer to walk again, sanctified in lover's hands, on sands warmed by understanding not yet cooling from dishonor's chill in shadows of my country's darkness growing." those of us from the Nam era might argue that even that travesty was more justifiable that Afghanistan ... let alone Iraq ... MUCH (sustained) applause for this 'penning'!! |
