            A Snow White Dove

Perched in the fork of an old apple tree,
Hidden away where no one can see,
Obscured from the hawks up above,
With just a few twigs and leaves
A flimsy platform she weaves,
It’s the nest of a snow white dove.

On her rather sparse little nest
She sits with devotion, her quest
To hatch chicks that she hopes will survive,
Now with no time to spare
She will happily sit there,
Waiting patiently for the chicks to arrive.

In the warm days of Spring
When the meadow larks sing,
The harsh days of Winter seem obscure,
From the nest of the dove
Comes the true meaning of love,
For the dove is the symbol of all that is pure.

Beautiful!

I keep forgetting the season over there, as we prepare for snow.  I must research what Christmas is like for you in higher temperatures.  I can't imagine Christmas without snow, ever!

Lindsay,  Love the rhythm, rhyme and verse,
but they are just a backdrop to a beautiful poem.

Well done my friend.
May peace be yours on this Holiday season.

Lindsay, I really enjoyed reading this one and thinking back to the first time I saw a dove, only a few years ago.  It was a gray dove, not very old...so gentle.  The tail feathers spread like a fan as it stood still just a few feet from me.  I was mesmerized and awed that it did not fly at my approach.

My daughter had doves as pets some time later.  It just wasn't the same.  They do represent good tidings and love.  I don't like to see them caged.

Thank you for sharing this beauty.
