Smiles flashing, like memories of some distant sun, they pursue the soccer ball with feral glee. Their communication is joyous, a staccato burst, an ethnic melange born of the urgency of the streets. They are aware, but do not see the syringes, condoms, empty bottles: an alternate reality from another world. Dealers, junkies, pros, and winos: all known and greeted equally by these small, energetic dreams of tomorrow. From the series "Anger in the Street" "We are stardust: we are golden: and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden." --Joni Mitchell "Woodstock" |

quote: How you came up with this incredibly beautiful definition of these children! It is so sad that their eyes are so used to squalor ... What scenery you evoked here, dear Jim, it will linger in my memory for quite a while! Powerful! Love, Margherita |

I have witnessed this scene all too often, sad. So true to life. Ida |

Very touching. Makes one wonder why these great kids cannot somehow be reached and the potential they posses be brought out. latearrival |

Your diction is wicked. And this poem is real nice. Fall in love early, fall in love often. |

The perfect closing stanza to a powerful poem. "Dealers, junkies, pros, and winos: all known and greeted equally by these small, energetic dreams of tomorrow." ~ Diamonds, indeed! God bless them! Linda |

I went to Jamaica once and watched children playing in sewers. In their joy, they didn't even notice the filth. But I did. And it broke my heart - just like this piece did... Aenea If I don't say it...who will? |
