Cold Fire

I sat too close to the fire and got burnt
a marshmallow melts underneath its blaze
snow white below the ashen curled black
another promise broken to un-include me
no accidental damage in this blister suffering
the smoke lays low close to the combustion
in this trial by fire to destroy the only way out
hearts exposure to this pain results in feeling so cold
my eyes burn consumed in the stinging of these tears

"I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad."
— Joni Mitchell

It is so painful when our eyes burn, and tears well.

This is such an emotional piece of poetry, and so true to your creative style of writing, slick one~

Burns, dry ice, tears...it comes to fear, grief for loss, and then a sort of waking that moves beyond it. I've such empathy for you.....the feeling of being tossed to the lions with no way out. But there is, and it will come.

And that hurts all the more... to know the pain was deliberately inflicted, not accidental or incidental. Superbly written suffering...
