"Exercising Empathy" To exercise this empathy is not an easy task Emotions tend to carry you away And who would ever willingly probe into them, I ask? Unnecessary burdens, as some say Yet somewhere hidden deep beneath the bedlam they project Emotions serve to guard our inner-selves By being so chaotic they unknowingly protect That part of us where few desire to delve So even though it's hard to use this gift that's been bestowed Unwillingly upon my weary heart I pray some good will come of it not too far down the road So someday empathy and I can part April 8, 2009 AMdG "My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night; but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--it gives a lovely light!" -Edna St. Vincent Millay |
