I sit and watch the fireflies, I wonder if they hear my cries. But why would they? listen to me? I'm not much of a celebrity, no longer emanate levity. It's nights like these I hug my knees and try to fight off memories that flood the scent of the breeze. Never been one to put on fronts, in my old age, past reckless stunts, I try to settle down for once. And who would believe me anyway? Barefoot, corn-pickin', runnin' from the law, married without children for the sunflowers, in the middle of the garden in Arkansas watching fireflies... and why would they? listen to me? I'm just a poet, not a celebrity, dancing where only the moon can see. That is the extent of my levity. |

The images in this poem are so strong. It really puts a picture in my mind, and I cannot only picture myself in such a situation, but anyone feeling different emotions. Great post. |
