I sit and watch the fireflies,
I wonder if they hear my cries.
But why would they? listen to me?
I'm not much of a celebrity,
no longer emanate levity.

It's nights like these I hug my knees
and try to fight off memories
that flood the scent of the breeze.

Never been one to put on fronts,
in my old age, past reckless stunts,
I try to settle down for once.

And who would believe me anyway?
Barefoot, corn-pickin', runnin' from the law,
married without children for the sunflowers,
in the middle of the garden in Arkansas
watching fireflies...
and why would they? listen to me?
I'm just a poet, not a celebrity,
dancing where
only the moon can see.

That is the extent of my levity.

That is a lovely poem dear Dixie and I really think that you are selling yourself

short. You are a celebrity here on PIP as far as I'm concerned anyway. Take care dear Lady, Love

Once again, I have to say it, You Are Loved.  I like this poem. Hope you are feeling okay.

Did you receive my last note? Wonder how you made out at the signing.

thanks all glad you enjoyed my "last night moment"

Oh Lindsay, you are too kind. I'm kinda like the singer who doesn't make an album for ten years. And the style of music changes, like everything else under this big sun.

Hey Marty Jo You slipped in there without me seeing.

I haven't had the signing yet, it's on July 4th. I'm hoping it goes well! I will let you know.

And no, I hadn't gotten your email...yahoo is acting strange lately.

Dixie, your levity is intensely expressed in this poem. The mere presence of fireflies just for you to enjoy is a wonderful gift ... oh they ARE conscious of you watching them! ... your pen flows beautifully.

Love,
Margherita

Dixie, levity > celebrity.

lol

And the world needs all the levity it can get. Here's to catching those fireflies in whatever garden you may find yourself in.

Yo dear Passing shadows,

We should all be thankful for any levity that we come across.

Dixie, this was so real and honest and I swear that I got inside your skin while I was reading your poem. It was as if I could see what you could see ~ feel what you could feel.

I truly hope that all turns out well for you. You've been through so much in your life.

Love and a warm hug,

Linda

I'm so glad this came back up! *S*

It's nights like these I hug my knees
and try to fight off memories
that flood the scent of the breeze.

You may not be a celebrity, but you're pretty darned special. *S*
