Feel my heart beating, inside my chest It's truly going, 90 miles an hour As it's protected, by my bullet proof vest I'm so hot, would like a cold shower Standing guard in Iraq, this warm April night Thinking of home, and my precious dear wife On the street, there's truly not much light Wonder if tonight, I'll lose my life All my thoughts directed, watching for bad guys Knowing this uniform, a target for their attack Wishing I could wear, any other disguise So we could arrest, that wicked old pack Maybe soon I'll be leaving, homeward bound Get to see my children, three healthy boys If I'm shot, truly hope my body is found Hope to get home, and give my sons their toys Wish that Mr. Obama, could call us home That would surely be, a wonderful delight He just needs to call, on the telephone We'd be headed home, the very next flight AL Inmon |

Welcome to Pip! I think you rendered this soldier's emotions very well. I too wish that soldiers could go home and that true peace might finally find its way into the hearts of all men. Poignant. Love, Margherita |

Very nice sentiments, Poetal, ones we can all relate to. Getting the syllable counts more in line and the accents in the right places would add greatly to the message. A very appropriate poem for the upcoming Veteran's Day ![]() |

A heartfelt write. War is not nice, it hurts everyone. Maybe some day humans will decide to be compassionate and loving, not greedy and self-centered. Then perhaps, wars will end. Welcome to Pips. [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (11-11-2009 09:34 AM).] |

although very delicately phrased, I think these are the raw thoughts of all 'peace' soldiers in Iraq. And you're so right. One call can make the difference. |

Al, Welcome to Passions! I read your Texas poem, so I can only guess at the welcoming not only your family will give you but the welcome that your whole neighborhood will have readied in store for your return.
