"In general relativity, an event horizon is a boundary in spacetime, most often an area surrounding a black hole, beyond which events cannot affect an outside observer. Light emitted from beyond the horizon can never reach the observer, and any object that approaches the horizon from the observer's side appears to slow down and never quite pass through the horizon, with its image becoming more and more redshifted as time elapses. The travelling object, however, experiences no strange effects and does, in fact, pass through the horizon in a finite amount of proper time."

Event Horizon

As individuals we build personae,
complex and byzantine,
for others to peruse.
Adjustments, both minor and major,
occur regularly
as our image of self,
and our perceived life-objectives
change and develop.

As we age, the logarithmic acceleration
of time is frightening,
and we become less concerned
with how others perceive us.
We seek solace, in religion,
in medication, in self-pity,
or in a manic rush
of  "look-at-me-I'm-still-the-same" activity
that denies the increasing and relentless pull
of our own,
and very personal,
Event Horizon.

Sutra 8: Faith is not an alternative to thought: the one excludes the other.

We all feel this transition differently, but the end result is always the same. You are so right about the "letting go" part of the process, and just letting it happen.

Really enjoying your mind, and thoughts.

A touching insightful poem!
It is 6:51 am here as I sit here drinking coffee watching my two pet rabbits look out the kitchen window, waiting for the sun rise, so they can see what they are missing, not being able to run through the fields with their kind.
It is a cold October morning out here on in Nebraska where there are few people and much wind.
I still live where I grew up. In a few minutes I will shower and go meet my old high school buddies for breakfast and we will laugh and remember the 1950's and 1960's.
My morning will be much better now thanks to your insightful poem.

GBride, thank you for your comments.  I think it all boils down to accepting "what is" and not crying about "what might have been", and being fully and completely here in the Now.  Could be the only Heaven we will ever have is right here, right now, and it is up to us to recognize that.  Enjoy the coffee with your high school buddies.  I wish that I were in touch with some of mine old school friends.  But, here, Now, on a hill overlooking a harbour of the cold north Atlantic is a good...a peaceful place, where I can be completely.....Now.
