Cranes in the DMZ There is a place between North Korea and South Korea where rice paddies and villages have been returned to the wilderness. In this place the red-crowned crane has prospered. This place is know as the DMZ. It is ironic that should a war be provoked between North and South Korea this imperial species will die as surely as the soldiers pull their triggers and launch their missles, yet should reunification take place, developers would attempt to develop the wilderness into homes and industrial parks. However, there is an alliance of Scientist that propose the DMZ should be designated an International Peace Park. For the lives of the people, for the beauty of the cranes, for the sake of the land, let us hope so.
