No gurus, no lovers, no white knights no more.
No calvary's coming. The chopper ignored
all the flares that I sent up--they gave me away
to the sites of the enemy. I dug my own grave.

If there's anyone left at the end of this day,
I'll go off berzerker and pray that I save
a life much more worthy than that of my own--
I'll rip off the dogtags, leave only my bones.

No medal of honor, no bronze star for me.
There are few who would want it and none who would grieve.
I'll watch the sun setting and wait for twilight.
I just might buy seconds if I charge the last light.

"Rage," said the poet. "Rage more" said the play.
Both quotes out of context, but if all life's a stage,

I'll improvise endings. I'll knock down the set.
I'll deafen the ears of my audience yet--
a war cry "Comanche" and blood on my face,
dying unshriven but praying for grace.

Holes are for foxes and I am black sheep.
I'll die locked and loaded, blown off of my feet.

Very reminiscent not only of current pop culture, but of current world events. A powerful write.

There are few who would want it and none who would grieve.

Except, of course, for those saved... more worthy or not. *S*

Grace sometimes arrives in tattered attire...

I don't know what inspired this powerful write... but I know I like it!!

Love those last two lines and I guess I feel the need to go out locked and loaded too. I don't think I've ever been a black sheep because that would have been too much like the rest of my fanily so I guess I'm a reverse rebel. ha ha but I do enjoy your grit (and wit).

Am I ready? Well it's not quite twilight...*smile* Just one more promise to keep, Charly...

And of course, this is metaphorical, but what is scary is that many many people I know feel the same way.

Beware of them that feel that they have nothing left to lose, for Hell hath no fury...

Thanks for reading.

Methinks you need a hug or two or three~~~

(and I agree with your words on many a day)

Miss reading you,

Amazing truth in every word you write, as always Karen.

You always make me wonder, what is behind the words.

Take care, my friend.

Karen, you are SO WRONG that none would grieve!  For a start, the whole of Pip would need a ship to save them from drowning in the sea of tears!

Loved thee poem, though.  So Karen it is - and that says so very much!

And, just for the record, as I know you will already know, I adore sheep whether they are black, white, pink, green, yellow, striped or spotted, along with all the animals that ever were born.

You rage and the storm is fascinating to watch, but we can tap into the same energy and use it to calm the seas ... the rebellious black sheep help us to grow in this awareness.

Love,
Margherita

Dear Karen, take it from me, things are never as bad as they seem. Next week or next month the sun will shine again for you.
I know it will if you try hard enough.
Good luck, love and a big hug.

*smile*

I've been fanning myself a lot too. *laughing*

I live in a quadrant of suburbia where there are no less than five women going through menopause--can you IMAGINE?

Thanks for reading.
