There they lied, the king and the queen, who were at peace with their lives and whose relationship was doing just fine. But one day the court jester came, and decided that as a part of the act, he would have a funny joke to say. So after juggling and fooling around, he came up to the queen and told her that the king had settled on marrying her because in return he'd get the crown. As a result the queen fell into despair, and the relationship between the two became threatened because of the jester. That foolish man broke up the kingdom, which was once a peaceful place to be. So now the king was left alone again, being hated by his people and his queen. Out of anger he attacked the damn fool who had ruined his relationship with the queen and who had destroyed his kingdom. Then the king climbed up the highest tower, that he may plead with queen forever. For days on end, he continued to cry out that he cared about her more than anything else. But the queen turned her head away from the voice of the beckoning king. Finally the king said, in a desperate plea, "If you don't respond to my calls than i shall jump, and my end it shall be". Three seconds later the king let go, and then the queen screamed in despair, "Don't leave me so", as she looked out the window to see where was the king. The king held onto a single vine, and stared back up at his lovely wife. She had forgiven him at last after seeing how truly horrible her life would be if she could never be with him again. In the end, the kingdom regained its peace, and all that was left was to bury the foolish old jester who started the mess. "Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before;" -Edgar All |
