                Being Content

Every day when I wake up I make one of two decisions
Am I going to be happy today or am I going to be sad
It might seem such a simple choice to make
But I’m sure if the answer yes, you certainly will be glad.

Why is it then that so many folk look sour and resentful
As if the whole world is against them for sure,
Their whole outlook surely must be bitter and uneventful
They complain about every ache and pain they endure.

A smile from those who are happy & an extend a cheerful hello
Will be the one in your mind that you’ll keep
For most people know that it is as you sow
Then that is certainly just how you will reap.

Contentment is such a wonderful thing to achieve
Especially if it can suppress the pressures of life
It is something I practice and also in which I believe
And most times I don’t enter that dark passage of strife.

So sad folks look up and feel the sun on your face
And count each blessing that you daily enjoy
There are always so many people worse off than yourself
So there is no need for you to join their convoy.

Yo LindsayP,

For those bad mornings, get-up, force a smile on your face, and throw cold water on your face to freeze the smile there.  That always works.

Lindsay;

it's going the world 'round, m'friend...

so many people are discontent with the way
things are at this moment. I know...I receive
phone calls day after day from friends,
family, who want a shoulder to cry upon.

The best I can do is listen, and in helping
them work out their grievances, I work my
own out as well.

I tell them "beans and rice, rice and beans" and at times "a hamhock works well."

Some of them call back; and I hear their smiles...

it always comes down to choices. Either we
will do what we can to get by; or we'll not
do anything, and just not smile.

I even have to kick myself now and then.

Indeed I agree, I'm sure most of us don't have much to complain about. But some folks are just born misery bags I guess, or kill joys as I call them   A lovely and positive poem, enjoyed very much Lindsay.

Wise men are rare as a well written verse,
I always can count on finding both when I read you.

Nice to see your words of wisdom.

Well done, my friend.
