Late August— Old men are Pulling jackets From closets Before they go Outside Just down The street The first oaks Are beginning To show a tinge Of autumn orange On their summer Brows Last night We met again I simply really Don’t understand Who or what Must insist on you Appearing so often Regardless of space And time Even more now Given how gaunt And unwelcome You are Well I suppose Despite the fall That’s just The way It always goes . . . With dreams . |
