Forget them not The faceless individuals in The song of voices in the wind Which carries from shore to shore Silenced forevermore Their echoes grow further apart Blood thinned through countless hearts Fading sunsets into twilight Their day forgotten through lost sight Holding the flame aloft once more Silenced forevermore Carved in sand, a debt half-paid Wreathes of green carefully laid With trembling hands and tear dried eyes Half the debt paid with all their lives Clasping intertwining fingers to implore Silenced forevermore Tributes stacked upon vain stone Lying in trodden fields all alone Etched there infinite names There only are they all the same Their youth a rising, raging, roar Silenced forevermore Forget them not For they one day could be you Wrapped in red, white and blue Lessons not learned before Silenced forevermore |

Carved in sand, a debt half-paid Wreathes of green carefully laid With trembling hands and tear dried eyes Half the debt paid with all their lives Clasping intertwining fingers to implore Silenced forevermore By the time I finished reading, I couldn't swallow for the lump in my throat... This powerful plea is as heart-touching as a stroll through Arlington... and is going into my library so I may always remember. |

quote: Heartwrenchingly sad and most powerfully rendered feelings, dear J. I have been in Northern France recently and have seen the many signs still evident from World War II where so many lost their lives too. I thought of writing about my perceptions there too. It's so deeply sad. Love, Margherita |

This is how I felt at Gettysburg. Thank you, Jerry, for wearing your forget-me-not with such open compassion. |
