Oh, August you ugly, heat oppressive brute, you descend upon us without regret, much like Pan with his sensual, sweet flute. You give us bodies of hot , humid sweat. Your tomatoes are the largest, brimming with juice, running down our hot, drenched chins. Your dark, cloud days let us run wild and loose. Our farmer’s markets filled with fruit in bins, Each person with their straw hat and bag, wandering down the asphalt street. A few following behind and slowly lag, meeting friends they gladly greet. Hugging them with sweaty arms, children squished hard in between, with nowhere to retreat. Oh, August you do treat us badly, like an abusive lover, punch us down. Yet, we do love you madly, at our loss we do frown! |

Oh that was some heated rant, I don't care much for oppressive heat and burning sunshine myself. You manage to catch very well the feelings in an excellent poem Heart2Heart |

Very nicely done! A sensuality to this, if I dare think of the hot sweaty days of August as romantic. Yes, you've proven that they, too can be sensual! Great poem, GBride! |

August is my least favorite month for a number of reasons. Nice work, cute title. Ida |

I like meeting an August I have never met before. It rains here in August and when the sun does shine, it brings the cool side of fall. We are one step from winter. Good thing I like winter. Alison |

I was taken aback by your intriguing title and thought I'd come in to see what you had to say about August. You showed her less than savoury side ~ as well as her more charming aspects. "Your tomatoes are the largest, brimming with juice, running down our hot, drenched chins." I love to pluck ripe tomatoes right off the vine and gobble them up! May Lady August show her more charming side! EA |
