Love Simple as water In the sea Holding its treasure Deep Hiding not its wave Simple as rains Dropped in long dried desert Listening to birds chirping Breathe in long lost fragrance With fresh smile Simple as a lake In spring time, quiet, A rock Being thrown in Ripple by ripple, Refusing to be tranquilized Simple as vapor Giving Warmness And passionate tears Selfless |

McMust, you have truly understood love, as this exquisite cameo shows. The last word of the poem is the most expressive of all. A quote I copied by hand as a teenager over 40 years ago in Book 1 (of 3) follows. I still have all 3 books. "Such tremendous things are expected of love, but it can expect nothing in return. Its very nature forbids it to demand anything. The moment love asks for even a little gratitude, it ceases to be love. It has no pride at all. That it ought to receive love in return, goes without saying, but when it does not, it cannot protest. Sometimes the price is staggering - a whole lifetime can be spent giving, giving of itself, with no trace of anything given in return." - from "No Little Thing" by Elizabeth Ann Cooper. Although this is not the type of love you are talking about in the poem (or perhaps you are talking about all kinds of love), I am comforted by this quote, when the pain of my daughter hating me for more than 20 years for no valid reason becomes unbearable. I love her no matter what. However, a word of caution, before committing to a marriage where the selflessness is one-way, weigh up the price and consider whether you are prepared to pay it. If the love is selfless from both sides, then you are both truly blessed. Owl |

Some poetry reads like laundry smells from the line? Does that make sense? It has a wonderful clean feel to it that makes me smile. This is such a poem. Alison |
