Did you say Emily was here And had to quick depart Without a verse to sooth my ear Nor thoughts to hold my heart? What bearing was her foot upon? Which trail did she pursue? For certain she went thicket deep On paths nobody knew For wasn’t she the one whose Introspection filled her eye With feathers spread to launch her Freedom wings into the sky Beware, dear poet, lest you step Into another age Think not that you can trail through thicket To her poet page Her verse was spawned in deeper wells Than those from which you drink And her simplicity most times Was deeper than you think Her poet pen was delicate Her heart was paper thin And solitude, the only friend Who met her deep within She wove the human element With fragile threads of breath But could not do within her life What she has done in death Elizabeth Santos |

Emily Dickinson? I am a fan, and I agree to all this about her. |

Lovely poem to commemorate Emily. It caught at my heart with a sense of sadness. She is one whose works I've still much to explore, and I'm convinced I should explore yours more, as well. Aren't we fortunate that we can tell each other now how much we enjoy their thoughts and insights, while they are still here to know they touched deeply. And you do. ~Karen |

Oh, you did a great job here, dear Elizabeth. Emily is the Poetess, to whom we can only bow our heads, indeed. Wonderful. Love, Margherita |
