The battle raged on Trusham Hill Wise men prayed, as the sky sprayed rain To heal the earth from so much pain All shunned in shame By those who slayed The sky turned red, as my brothers bled Wind and smoke for those who choked Dismal deeds from man's clear greed I clashed my sword and broke my steed Moaned and groaned, then fell and croaked Cannons boomed On this dear mound As lightning cracked, The rain did lash To clear the ground of man's ill trash The mist of death then took my breath I felt God's hand sweep my brow As he waved his arm on this ill ground Then silence fell on land and sand Bewitched by death through nature's debt Cursed be....... thy lance and steed Drenched with flood and dead man's blood Thundering cracks and broken backs Reddened skies and blood red scythes That reap the earth with all it's lies From greed and strife... No wheat or bread..........the dead are left On Trusham Hill, no fear have I.... Here...the dead walk by! |

What a brilliantly penned poem describing so vividly and splendidly a battle scene at Trusham Hill. Sorry I haven't been aware of this happening, are we then talking about Trusham Hill in Devon ? If so I suppose the Vikings were on many a marauding mission down there. Wonderful and striking poesy, so thrilling to read. Heart2Heart |

I feel cold reading this because our histories are so filled with violence and carries into this day the bloodshed and terror. It's a very effective poem, wonderfully penned, and I enjoyed the read immensely, although, at this hour, I may dream footsteps of the dead passing by me as I sleep. It is the witching hour. In fact, I feel them now, and I'm still awake. Deep breath here. ~Karen |

Extremely well thought out and written. I am so fortunate to have never witnessed any of this. Carpe' Diem, |

Firstly a reply ....Heart2Heart... Indeed....I had no idea that Trusham Hill even existed, never mind that a battle had taken place. I did check on the Internet and indeed...battle DID take place. My poetry comes from direct communion with my soul. Unlike, those who 'pray', I get replies. Some things I do not understand, but I am a psychic. My poetry skills are ZERO, as I have no English eduation, and have the lowest English grades very near to illeterate level. Poetry is a skill of the mind and subconscious, as opposed to the brain. Conscious is the mind that we take with us, from one life to another and may be millions of years old. Here in the dephs of our souls, lies CREATIVITY. If we can tap into the mind (like I can) then you have all your answers. My name is scattered on the Internet and is a curse to most. Here I can just write poetry....and what if it does not fit? Well...it is only a poem...lol. Yet tap into the mind accurately....and woe...did I take part in this battle? George |
