You sat at my table
All shiny and polished
On the outside

And I sat there with you
All wrapped in plastic and perfect
On the outside

We sat
And talked of nothing
Saying nothing
Being nothing

With brightly painted eyes
Staring out of a shiny doll face
I sat there
With folded hands and folded lips
Believing nothing

Never once betraying
Neither with word nor deed
The hell that bled
Just there
On the inside

You sat at my table
All shiny and polished
With nothing truthful to say

And I sat there with you
My shiny doll face
With my bright doll eyes
Telling perfectly plastic
Doll faced lies

If I don't say it...who will?

Interesting topic. Reminds me of my poem Don't Mind. Nice work.

It is just amazing the pretenses we can manufacture in uncomfortable situations.  This showed it well.

Zach - thanks for reading!  You know what they say  - great minds think alike

Mysteria - thank you for reading as well!  I got the concept for this piece after having one of those family dinners that right in the middle you start thinking - "hmmm....awkward...."

If I don't say it...who will?

Tough Road . . . and in truth honesty doesn't always mend fences, sometimes we need to fudge a bit - but when it reaches this point, absenting oneself from the situation might be best - - - unless of course, one's in a '
saving' mode:  then action is required and that may be the hardest task of all; though often, if love is truly there --- the best.

enjoyed.

This was powerfully thought provoking. Reminds me of how much time we spend just putting up pretenses for other people and ignoring how we feel inside.

Porcelain Skin
Cracked and Fractured
soul captured in loves rapture

It's time to rethink every fact that is imaginable
Survival instinct dwells in a past that is inhabitable
I happen to pull fast ones over the slow p

Polite conversations at a dinner table with strangers who do not know what to say to each other, truly doll-face looks telling doll-face lies.

you have described this scene very well stirring deep thoughts.
