They come and they go Stirring emotional nightmares Scarring regretable memories Loosening nails that you've hammered into your coffin of the non-forgiving past They come and they go Reminders of the wasted days Or grudge holding thoughts A verification that it was always more than the nightmare you pretended it to be. They come and they go Gripping tightly to your chest Suffocating the breath you beg God to take from you Still you breathe And still you know They come and they go But they only stay for the duration that your eyes rest upon his picture And when you look away They're gone January 3rd 2009 Emily Shives |
