Left Behind You took your love away from me, Quietly, Unwillingly. Only a week before you had asked me "When do we get to go home?" You wanted to be back in your sewing room, Planning out the items You'd make for the Christmas bazaar. I couldn't tell you Why you were stuck in a hospital bed And did not recognize our living room. I didn't answer. I could not tell you why. And quietly, unwillingly, You left me only memory. |

Thank you for responding. Memory is, at best, only a faint companion, at worst, a searing confirmation of loss. At some point, I'll remember her smiles without triggering the painful loss of never seeing another one. Some day, maybe. No yet. Not now. |
