Puzzle patterns invite curious feet to follow the grey slate stones of the sculpted yet meandering pathway from curb sidewalk to latticed front porch. Black-eyed Susans and brilliant red and purple Salvias stand erect near flowing clumps of fragrant white Alyssum, which sweetens the air when gentle breezes blow. An ever-cheerful sunny Coreopsis smiles near a sweetly scented English Lavender as a majestic pink Bearded Tongue joyfully attracts wayward hummingbirds. Pastel pink Petunias and dazzling Ruby Begonias sit at the base of 40 year old proud Yews, standing like sentries on either side of the porch steps. Balloon flowers pop up next to a fast-growing creeping Thyme and a coy but eye-catching cobalt blue Lobelia, all seem subdued by a whimsical Stonehenge-like formation that invites one to ponder past and present. A nearby Azalea elegantly keeps to herself. Aromatic Rosemary complements French Lavender, while soft gray Sage and pale green Basil cuddle together near some wandering Mints. Yellow and burgundy Chrysanthemums find themselves scattered here and there, as do clumps of Iris and Fern. Assorted ‘free’ bloomers (weeds to some) fill in the empty spaces with their own palette choices. Rounding it all out are a myriad of crawling and flying things who seem convinced this paradise was designed for them. They'll get no argument from me. |

What a wonderful way to wake up this Sunday morning, Kacy! I am going to remember the title of this poem for as long as I can, so that when things are too stressed in my life, I can escape into this beautiful garden corner which is a reminder that it is so possible for God and Man to sing the same song. This macrocosmic concept blends with its microcosmic elements to form a midicosmic masterpiece! W B Yeats would agree that this, too, is a place where "peace comes dropping slow"! Thank you for giving birth to this flower-scented haven, Kacy. - Owl |

Kacy, A garden of aromas and clashing colors - that is in my mind from reading this poem. Oh, I do so love Rosemary and Lavendar and Basil and Loebelia. I love it all - and I want to grow Peonies! Beautiful, my friend. Just beautiful. Oh and the 'acrid perfume' poem I wrote. I was thinking you would know exactly what I meant as I posted it. xoxoxo Alison |

Bruce, Ida, Di, Ali: Thanks for visiting the garden puzzle path. I'm having fun putting this yardscape together! It really is growing like a puzzle, especially the walkway. A new ornamental maple tree will be added this fall, and hopefully a waterfall, Zen meditation bench, koi pond and modestly small vegetable garden next spring. How can one go wrong when creating a customized mini-paradise? I heartily encourage everyone to do this, whether it's indoors, on a deck or patio with pots, a standard city yard, or acreage! |

Kacy, I hope there will be more poems about it, as it grows, but if so, please let us know - either from the title or a note - that it is about this Puzzle Path garden. It would be lovely to read them in sequence. Please more Sassy the squirrel poems, too. - Owl |

A garden is the greatest free show on earth; yes I am aware that there are often hours of back-breaking effort to get it looking just right but the best gardens seem to give the impression that they just 'happened' with no effort at all. This is a splendid read and worth reading again and again. |
