Thou Shalt Not Steal A young lad walked home from school by himself With a very worried look on his face, For he’d stolen five dollars from up on a shelf And the teacher had sent him home in disgrace. She had stood him out in front of the class And severely denounced his pathway of sin, She said of his demeanor she couldn’t let pass, Nor the ongoing trouble that he’d find himself in. She said if he continued this commandment to break, It would surely bring him nothing but grief, His own self respect he would surely forsake And be branded by all as a thief. Thou shalt not steal, was there in the bible, A commandment that we all must impel, Not following that path he would surely be liable To finish up in the dark dungeons of hell. Why had he done it, he felt sick at heart, It was a spur of the moment thing he had done, He had no wish from an honest path to depart But it was something that could not be undone. He thought of his mother & what she would think, He knew his indiscretion would leave her quite sad, He felt quite ashamed, large tears made him blink And what would his punishment be from his dad. He pondered the problem as he headed for home, Taking advice from the teacher when she said, Horrie, When you grow to manhood & start out to roam, If you don’t mend your ways, I know you’ll be sorry. The kindest teachers were often the most severe ones on our conscience, Lindsay. You left for all time a truth that we can only hope will be read by generations in time. I do hope, sir, that you put this to paper to be left in your own personal archives! Thank you! |

Dear Lindsay, the message came across very powerfully. Those tears of repenting were surely enough to heal this lad from wanting to steal again. In my opinion, if it was the first time, the teacher should have taken him apart, without telling the whole class, which equalled to label him forever as a thief, even if it was a one time episode. It is hard for educators sometimes! I always highly appreciate your life stories, dear Lindsay, you are such fine storyteller/poet. Love, Margherita "Love is the One who masters all things; |

Dear LP, this is another fine gem from your pen. Impetuosity can have far-reaching consequences. A fact that needs to be ingrained in the minds of youths. Actually, that fact should be heeded by all of us! Love to you, my dear Aussie friend, Linda |

As a boy, I sometimes too did things on the spur of the moment that I was later ashamed of because a teacher or my parents pointed out the errors of my ways. I think it must be a fairly common occurence. |
