The little spark said to the flame,
“How did you grow the ego?”
and the flame said, “It’s easy to do
if you forget there’s more than just you”.

The little spark pondered the way of the fire
and how it held captive all types alike
and it wanted to grow into a flame
but it seemed they had nowhere to go.

Close to the hearth it nestled in heart
and watched the flame’s frenzied attempt
to reach beyond it’s limited feel
into the heaven of compassionate beings.

But the spark thought it a grand display
of passion and verve, vim and vigour,
and it thought one day to simply forget
and carve a niche for itself in the fire.

Lo and behold, it overcame heart
and joined the flame in forgetfulness
and never looked back at what it begat
by its hard to come by cast-aside mood.

It died one day; it happens that way
when you land in a place of “just you”
and never again was the flame ever seen
by any compassionate being.

The little spark knew there was nowhere to go
but still it grew into a heartless flame
in erroneous thought that all it once was
would carry it up, up, up, and beyond.

It didn’t, you know, but perhaps there’s a way
to start again as a lowly spark
but who brings the kindling and who the will
to allow the progression of life to death?

We must find it within ourselves, we need to remain connected to the Source, everything comes from there and is created there ... we are cared for. Our ego wants us to forget, but we should know better.

Your poem is a  neat reflection of your profound philosophical analysis.

Enjoyed your work very much, dear Helen!

Love,
Margherita

Thanks you, Margherita, Larry, and Lindsay.  I want to be a flame but I know better.
