I'm gonna' take this bat and hit that ball only because you dare to throw it. America, the dusty new horizon for those in the game and moving. Fields cleared of the growth from a thousand years with bare hands and dreams. City nights hustle with the sound of horses reflected by lamp light in steam. Action - cheering on the sound of trumpets and violins in dimly lit store fronts ... saying "yes we can too." - fudging back home melodies into new. I'm gonna' take this stick and hit that bundle of tar, twine and leather because I can and what are you going to do about it ? |

I read this yesterday, and again today. I believe that there is much that I understand, but will be reading it again, to see if I can change my assumptions into more certainty. Enjoyed it both times. Yes, give the bundle of tar, twine and leather a jolly good whack! - Owl |

I think I have got it all this time. Lots of layers of bubbling powerful hope and optimism for the future in America and for those who live there, if only one has the courage to stand up and believe in oneself and know that the sky is the limit. Even if I am wrong, I certainly enjoyed it, especially the energising self-motivation in it. - Owl |

Hi Owlsa I'm delighted that you came back to the poem. I can't say what you've read into it is wrong. Poems can be a bit of an ink blot test. I had rugged American independence in mind when I wrote this. The most noble of American characteristics, in my opinion. I'm not American by the way. thanks |
