Through the abysiall darkness lurks the laminent leeches of legion. Around my body they attend, sucking away at my existence, in this void that I have entered, in this void I search for salvation. Over here there is mostly darkness with patches of gray light, like a bleached article of black clothing. In my mind I see the worn-out yellow fringed pages flip to the end of the volumn, to the blank pages that have yet to be filled, or that will never be filled. A book that has no ending, as if waiting to be finished, a life waiting to be extinguished from the source that dwells inside it. I see the volumn begin to close, and I reach out my hand. I hear the leeches abominable sounds as a ghoul might make when feasting upon his meal. They were enjoying me, but I wasn't enjoying their company. I taste the staleness of the void, the decay and the musk. The metallic twinge of droplets against my cracked lips. I smell the aroma of a newly published book, the hash-bled pages of another volumn, and the heavily scent of mothballs overlaying it all. Almost heavenly compared to this void. I touch the plump leeches, picking them off my skin, I touch the open wounds they have made, the blood rushing onto my fingers, my open palm. Then it stops, and the ligher becomes brighter. I feel the feathered quill between my fingers, my hand clutching it tightly. I feel the polished wood beneath my cheek and the numbness of my limbs. Then I finally open my eyes, and I feel relieved. |
