Anne Boleyn We bounced like beads of rain on a candlewaxed table You were mine, and I was your Overcoat Wrapped in thunder mired in allusions of a full universe. I counted you once on each of your six fingers but always fell short of a sum My soul wrote love letters that my mind could not for only you. Secretly married to protect virtue we were waves and shore together one without another could not exist. sob wracked I melted when they arrested you they said we were never married and the crime could not exist but they could not know what was stolen from the thief of smiles I cannot say goodbye since I am forever mixed and changed It is tomorrow Today and there is still a light carelessly left on in the London Tower |

Wow...enjoyed! I have loved the stories of the Tudors for over 35 years, PBS stories of them were a staple in the summers of my childhood...great job! |

Truly outstanding. A really beautiful write. One of the great things about this is that you can take it as either about Anne Boleyn literally, or as something personal the reader can draw from it, their own feelings and things they have gone through can be reflected in this poem. I love it when you can take songs and poems different ways like that. Poor Anne Boleyn; I mean of all of Henry VIII's wives, she ended up being the mother of England's greatest queen, Elizabeth I. |

I believe that one of her "crimes" was in not producing a male heir for Good Ole Henry! Hers was a tragic story, indeed, and you have told it well. Beautifully penned with many memorable lines, such as the closing ones ~ "It is tomorrow Today and there is still a light carelessly left on in the London Tower" I concur with soul drifter regarding the taking of this poem literally or personally. Great write! EA |

Thanks so much, James! Merci, Amusemi, I also find the Tudor story almost too fascinating to be true! Soul Drifter, you are so right: Anne has been largely forgotten as the Matron's mother. I have two versions of this: one with an attribute by Henry, the other without a 'by'. I think I will leave it blank, as you suggest. Thanks for your comments! Hi, Earth Angel! Never underestimate the importance of a male heir, huh? You both have convinced me on the write way to finish it! LOL Blues S; hey and thanks for the welcome! If I have time, I surely will. X, you hit on it: amazing power men wielded back then, much to the destruction of women. Yup....digusting. Again, thanks for the nice comments, all. TB |
