Emma No one should die on Christmas, That happiest time of the year. You know we love her Jesus And want to keep her here. She has heard you calling And has answered to her name But don't take her on Christmas If it is all the same. I know you'll do what's best, Lord But we have loved her so And any day but Christmas We'll agree to let her go. We've prayed that she could stay, Lord But that is not to be. The doctors say this Christmas is The last she'll ever see. We could not give her up, Lord This child beyond compare, If we were not so certain That you will meet her there. Please have her Grandma waiting With dear ones by her side, And even if its Christmas By your will we abide. By: Joyce 12/17/07(Emma is sixteen and fighting a battle she cannot win.A friend's child.) Emma Epilogue She didn't die on Christmas, Lord In answer to our prayer. To let her go at Christmas-time We thought we could not bear. She stayed with us through winter And watched with us for spring. It was in the last days of July She left on Angel's wing. This Christmas will be lonely, Lord, Our Emma won't be here. We're so thankful that you let her stay Through Christmas-time last year. We made a few more memories, Though some were bitter/sweet, We pray enough to last until In your own time we meet. So sad, Joyce. My daughter died in May 2000. I think she hung on that long because she wanted to see the beginning of the new millenium. Ida |

This was not my daughter but a precious little neighbor and I lost my son in 1999 before he got to see the millenium. Remember when everyone was worrying about everything not working when the millenium rolled around? I asked him what he thought and he said "There won't be a problem. They have known it was coming and have surely worked out all of the problems. He was very smart my son, but he missed seeing his words come true. I too am sorry about the loss of your daughter. Only a mother knows how it hurts. Love, Joyce |

Joyce...Very tenderly written. At least her family got to be with her and make a few more memories. I sure they were very thankful for that last Christmas...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

I'm so choked up right now I can scarcely write a reply. Joyce, I felt that you would one day be writing an epilogue of sort one day when I read the original. I had wondered how Emma was fairing. The loss of a child affects all who knew them. You truly are a wonderful ~ and compassionate ~ poetess. You also having lost a son, and Ida, a daughter, saddens me as well. You both illustrate that life must go on and I admire how you both have displayed the courage to continue yours with such grace. My love to Emma's family. Her Light will forevver shine on.
