THE END OF THE BEGINNING I am bringing everything into this room, so I must move the piano closer to the wall my head is out the window; I am calling “Stevie Hawkins” I am calling “J. J. Christ” I am calling “Charlie Atlas” but none of them is answering; I think they’re trapped in their childish futile game – counting to one hundred as if it were infinity but I will not wait that long: I am closing the window, I am drawing the drapes, I am moving the piano. poetry podcasts, blogs and photopoems at URL= http://anthonyarmstrong.ca |

I don't really follow your thoughts in this one, Anthony, but want you to know I read it, and am pondering it. |

HI Midnightsun, Thanks for reading my poem, THE END OF THE BEGINNING. Perhaps it is a bit obscure, so here is what I meant. When I have something to do, like moving a piano, or just dealing with my life, I cannot rely on others. I can't rely on science (Stevie Hawkins), I can't rely on religion (J.J. Christ), and I can't rely on musclemen (Charlie Atlas). I have tried to make the names of these icons sound childlike, not to demean them, but to show my immaturity in relying on the strength of others. In the end, I must move the piano. Thanks for the clarification. In the end, I think we all have to just 'do it' ourselves with everything in life. |
