Falling Lessons

my grandmother’s hob nob
milk glass bowl is my favorite
today admiring, it was dust close
carefully I two handed took it down
placed a linen towel in the warm sink
gently washed so many memories
rinsing the bubbles down the drain
tenderly took it out of the sink to dry
as gravity took over and in a second
the bowl hit the floor in fragments
with everything else lately I slid
to the floor tears welling in my eyes
out of nowhere I clearly heard
my grandmother, she said,
“if you’re gonna fall without a net
ya gotta know how to land”

"no darkness has ever been deep enough to extinguish my personal knowledge of love"  Anne Rice

with so many glass-ware collectibles around the house, I can so totally relate...my heart aches for your tragedy...though I must admit, I tend to look at mine with dollar signs instead of memories...oh, well

Ouch, that hurt, but on the other hand, you do have memories. I didnt have either grandma and feel that I missed out on a lot there.

Yes my dear friend.  There always are tears, but rememeber, walking is a controlled form of falling.

I understand all too well... I keep unpacking boxes and finding ruin... could be why it's taking me so long. *S*

And it hurts... {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Excellent write!

Helen

There are blessings we sometimes never see until they occur.  The bowl was precious, but not nearly as precious as you getting to hear your grandmother whisper her wisdom to you when you needed it the most.

Additionally, her validation of what you already knew, that she would always be there by your side in good times and bad, is truly a gift that will last your lifetime, and that you will be able to pass on to your children and theirs.

Kind, loving people are immortal, just like your Grandmother.

Helen take those  pieces that you love and you can do a mosaic design either on a table top or even make a trivet out of it  or a picture and hang it on the wall...you don't have to lose the memories.

What a beautiful way to retell an experience that probably happened in five minutes but will give you pause for thought for a lifetime. Well done.
