Sweet Southern Time

November came this morning
in a sweet southern time
dressed in grey silk pajamas
and I sat by the canal hopeful
dangling a foot swinging slightly
had childhood dreams passed
like cloud shapes over head
picking a mosaic to somehow follow
each changed with movement of my eyes
shrimp crawled in a bucket next to me
as I leashed one to the line suspended
not really to hook anything at all
more of a passing of time in waiting
there is comfort when things go slow
and my mind flows liquid with the waves
dancing leaves curl in this happy pool
as fish glide by with successfulness
I don’t mind the fall so much
but when the flowers are gone I mourn

"no darkness has ever been deep enough to extinguish my personal knowledge of love"  Anne Rice

Me too, but at least you don't get all this darn rain.     I wish I was sitting on the dock there with you and K, feet dangling, and just passing time.

Me too. Those beautiful flowers that bring us so much joy are gone.

1slick_lady - November came bringing in coolness of the breeze. Flowers die, yet in winter's sleep waiting to be reborn again...

"Sweet Southern Time" It sounds as delightful as this lovely poem. Makes me wish I was there. I guess we have "Sweet Southern California Time" here because my flowers are gorgeous right now.

Yo dear 1slick_lady,

I like this poem.

Shrimp make good fish bait anywhere.  I use them on the Jersey Shore.

I have these moments and can relate well.  I hope you look for the garden within you when you find the flowers around you wilting.  Might be more color than you realize.

Helen,

I felt at peace as I read this poem.  I love the flowers too and mourn their passing.  But, I paint flowers in my mind when the snow is falling - again, I really enjoyed this poem.

I do, too. *S* I know the camellias will soon defy freeze warnings and bless us with their blooms... but right now, the absence of blossoms is felt. *S*

I absolutely love this image... so dignified!!! *S*

living in the South, I have discovered that these words are the essence of Southern Living 101...very nicely done...you have captured 'Sweet Southern Time' so well...

Geez, the last two lines of this definitely strike a chord. Images that can't be described. You go Helen!
