Hey Troop You made it out And that’s what matters You answered The call to colors A good man You put on the uniform And did the time There might be scars From now ancient wounds And still you cringe Every now and then At the thought Of how close you came Yet now you’re free Of all that enmity Be glad old friend You didn’t end up dead Rotting in a trench Or a house in which It wasn’t worth Being alive . |

I remember guys that were short would say they were getting promoted to civilian. No matter what rank they were, civilian was higher. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

At times, being in the service is like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer. You don't know how much it hurts until you stop. Thank God we've always had the men willing to do so. They get my salute. |
