It has so far proved impossible
to measure the length of love
but it should stretch out to you
and then return to me.

You missed the catch; it doesn’t turn
and so like a projectile it goes
into you and then into time
like a space ship lost in the universe.

It would normally travel on, on, on,
but someone like me reels it in
and winds it around my life and times
like a hosepipe that’s never used.

And so of love it’s always as long
as the stretch of truth allows
or as short as the line of a fisherman
when ready to pack up and leave.

I’m not sure of love; should it travel in time
or remain amongst our tackle and twine
until next we decide to cast it out
into the sea of humankind?

I’m scared of the sea for it crashes and roars
and smoothes out the rocks and stones
until not even love can remain affixed
as a testimony to the truth!

OhMyGodHelen~
This is so poignant ... so deep, so ponderous~

'And so of love it’s always as long
as the stretch of truth allows
or as short as the line of a fisherman
when ready to pack up and leave.'

How unique a thought that just reaches beyond the screen, begging me to caress it~

I sure hope you know just how much this piece touches me~

(Still doing hospital time ... no true course of where we are going, but NOT another bronchoscopy that the doctor is wanting to do  ... but NO MORE DIAGNOSTIC procedures for this girl at this point)

So difficult to believe that my health issue is THAT UNIQUE that it can't be pinned down in four months ... just sort of unbelievable !

Prayers have kept me so far ... I think they still will~

Dear Marge, How wonderful to see you here!  As love can travel and stretch so do the prayers and good wishes from all of us to you.  In effect it's all love and love heals.  Sometimes, however, we find healing in adversity.  I don't know why that has to be but I guess it's all there on that big picture that we can't see.

Much love from me to you.  May you soon be back in full stride.

Great post Helen, but don't loose faith.

I'm sure that some day soon someone will grasp the other end of that line. Good luck.

Thanks, Lindsay.  I think I'm pretty much done with love now but on the other hand I still think it's the most important thing in life.  It has to be "in life" to be real - it's not in my life but I accept that it's not meant to be and, therefore, will never be.

Very touching, Helen.  Each line stays so close to the heart and never strays.

Oh honey, you reach clear across the continents and touch me deeply with your words.  It's not that I'm scared of the sea, but I'm afraid of drowning and dying alone.  Oh me, I'm having a moment over here and it's all your fault!!

Hugs good poetess~

Thank you all for your comments.  They mean a lot to me and, Bluesy, "alone" is a concept I'm re-learning because I didn't get it right the first time.  Every learning curve is a difficult one to navigate but once done we usually look back and say, "That was a breeze".  Let's hope the same applies to life.

Again, I am amazed at the imagery you create around a concept, dear Helen. For me Love is the very Source of life and it is immeasurable ... and within this immense sea of love you breathe ... to become love, to BE love and to attract love.

Love,
Margherita
