She placed a scarf around her neck, trying several styles of knots. Her shaking hand held a lipstick something she had found in the thrift-store purse she bought at fifty cents on a discount last Tuesday's senior citizen day for old folk to get out... She smiled revealing fuschia flecks on her yellow teeth. She winced at sparce and brittle hair not quite gray but colorless and touched her fragile paper skin before she smeared two dots on it-- a memory of blush. She took a tissue from the box and then she wiped the lipstick off as she wet the metal comb and patted her unrulies down before she took the orange scarf and placed it where her pride once was upon her head in auburn's place it used to bounce and frame her face... When she was young, she owned the name now she simply prayed for days her emerald eyes could see again-- and today was one of them-- she touched the mirror and she thought: "I wish that it were not." |

aw, Kace. Some days I wish I hadn't put down my charcoals and chalks--I think people are just so beautiful and fascinating. It's such a great sadness to me when they don't see themselves that way. *smile* I meant to write something seasonal. Maybe I did. Thanks for reading, lovie. |

It is a good thing I have a printer, because if I waited for you to put all these folks in "book form" I would sure miss out. I have created my own book and added Grace to it. This was brilliant! |

We all have seasons. We seem to cherish springtime the most. Autumn years though, are when we get to remember and when we have the most to remember. beautiful poem. |

"Grace" is a treasure, so insightful and real. I am keeping this one. Why did I know there was an artist in there somewhere? Ida |

It is a pity, i think, as folks get older, their confidence fades as does their memory of why they had once had the confidence. perhaps grace is an aquired skill to replace ego. Loved the way you put this together, Serenity! |

Karen, charcoals and chalks, or no charcoals and chalks, you painted the grace of Grace with your words, your compassion, your sensitive observation, your insight, your intelligence and your wisdom. Your response just after it, was a poem, a prayer, a painting of just who you are and why we all love you so much. - Owl |

You folks are so seriously lovely. I tried to stop writing...I wanted to write the fancy stuff, and I just couldn't. My head doesn't work that way. So I thought I should just stop the pretense, and give it up. The problem was, though, that I felt rather dead inside and I missed it. And I know this ain't "sniffy" artistic poetry--I can list twenty things wrong with this poem at a glance. But if I can repay the kindnesses you all have shown me by just making you smile, or think, then that's okay by me, if it's okay with ya'll. Thanks so much for reading "Grace". I was gonna try to "fix" her up, but I decided that would be a bit hypocritical after telling her she was just lovely the way that she is. I love you folks. |

Charcoals and chalks or pen and paper... the result is the same - a vivid painting the touches anyone lucky enough to see. Beautiful! |

Serenity, I know your Grace...her name is Mary. A truly remakable lady who has never ever admitted her true age. She worked here until she was well into her mid eighties and tried to pass herself as under 65, refusing to admit she received a monthly social security check. She had three different ages on her work papers and was finally asked to choose one for the records. . You wrote her beautifully. "Late" |

this is one of those rare pleasures when words transform themselves into such visual presentations that you cannot help (as the reader) to be awed by them...loved this phrase: "she took the orange scarf and placed it where her pride once was" such an enjoyable read |

This is understated and most powerful because of that. "When she was young, she owned the name.." (I wish I had written that line.) I think she still owns the name. |

*smiles* I wanted to say thanks yet again, but confess I came back to give E.G.--Edward Grim--special hugs and an explantion. "sniff the glove" was the name of the album in the movie that parodied rock stars--"This is Spinal Tap". I replaced the critique message with that because it gives me some wry amusement. It's good to see ya Ed. A bump in the night beats a lump in the night any time. Unworthy of you all. |
