Slave to a Memory

Onward down the road we go,
Changing our paths always,
Even though we know
Mystery lies ahead,
Each curve something new,

Then suddenly out of the blue,
True beauty unfolds before our eyes,
The road can be long,
Like time itself, never-ending, stretching,
Can it be wrong to want to explore?
Should we follow or lead?

The unknown can be frightening,
It’s easy to feel the need to be cautious,
Should we be afraid?
Our minds wander, wonder,
But the beauty!
Have we made the right choice after all?
Or will the beauty deceive?

A thought clouds the mind,
Do we believe the past will return?
Should we be brave?
The pain returns, haunting,
It’s easy to be a slave to a memory.
