My friend left his small town to fulfill military goals. He left the womb and returned as an old man. The political merchants of death play with his and my future. Humans are used and discarded as toys in a destructive child’s hands. Blind obedience strengthens ignorance. The obedience of ordinary masses led to the Holocaust. My friend doesn’t question why he joins his nation’s fight. Who is he really fighting? Does he fight the enemies from afar. on his own terrain. or within himself. He fights Their WAR and he will LIVE or DIE for a country’s BELIEF. The fragile egg is tossed to an alcoholic man. To be drunk with power! This government is so potent: they tell citizens, “You have the FREEDOM of SPEECH!” They’ll let citizens know when they can have the FREEDOM of THOUGHT! My father’s helicopter was shot down in the depths of Vietnam. He fell into the jungle of chaos. He crawled through dangerous lands to escape the scrutiny of earthly hell. He lived to tell me his story. I was born to hear his story. Miracles do happen! Do they? Most veterans see past an illusion of glory. Some cease to become students of media lies. These soldiers are exposed to the cruelty of truth. Innocent men, women, and children are exposed to such truth. Images of violent power sear into a child’s mind. UNFORGETTABLE. We are the children of WAR. Humanity is at WAR right now A spiritual WAR. My best friend carries the unwanted weights of past generations. Is it the burden of mistakes which can help mankind redeem itself? Do past events become the future damnation on humanity? I miss my friend. |

Your poem is very good and very true. There is an answer, but we who believe what you believe, have to: 1. spread the word and motivate others to think the same way 2. do this continually 3. have the optimism and especially the faith to do this continually One person can change the world - or at least large parts of it - look at Sister Theresa and Nelson Mandela. Many people with a united cause can do even more, but it has to start somewhere - or better still, in lots of "somewheres". - Owl |
