Madeleine's lament |

O'er woods and hills the cries were heard Of sorrow and torment. They froze the blood and chilled the heart - 'Twas Madeleine's lament. The skylarks in the dark'ning sky Made not a single noise And all across the peaceful earth Could not be heard a voice. All living things like statues stood, The trees ne'er stirred nor bent, And silence reigned o'er all the land - Save Madeleine's lament. And all who heard were moved to tears, From earth to sky above, For ev'ry creature understood She'd lost her one true love. She gave her heart so selflessly And now that love was spent. The one true love had not been true - Hence Madeleine's lament. He stole her heart and stole her love, He stole her kisses too. He told her they would never part, Alas! That was untrue! The words he spoke were black and false He said not what he meant And when he left he could not hear Sweet Madeleine's lament. When Venus heard the sorry tale To Madeleine she flew. 'Twas far too late to save the love And this the Goddess knew. As Venus found the sobbing maid And made her soft descent Her heart was moved like ne'er before By Madeleine's lament. She could not save the dying love But Venus knew a way To make false lovers ever true And never more to stray. She took the shining tears and placed Them in the firmament. So search the sky, you don't see stars - It's Madeleine's lament. Do not go gentle into that good night. |

Wonderful write and really great rhyming, flowing softly. You succeeded in permeating this tale with a harmonious tune. Love, Margherita |

Excellent cadence and flow in this work. A very enjoyable piece to read in structure and content alike. |

I realise that my poetry may belong to another era Well I for one, speaking for myself, I write sometimes from the time you speak of as well, nice to see a kindred spirit! I really appreciate this poem, have you ever seen the movie with Qweneth Paltrow about two poets, one is from England, the other from America and they are reasearching the poets of old in England and fall in love, finding love poems that have never been written, or viewed by the public before, locked in an old chest. I believe the movie is called Possession~ The past will connect them. The passion will possess them. Plot: A pair of literary sleuths unearth the amorous secret of two Victorian poets only to find themselves falling under a passionate spell. http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi3936092441/ Link to a preview of the movie! |
