Life is like the open ocean,
A world that ripples in your hand,
People wave from a distant shore
Calling you back to your homeland.

They say life should be well planned,
A route to guide you back home,
Keep the home fires burning at heart
Don't let it corrupt into stone.

But which path to choose in this maze?
A place that goes on ever and ever,
It is impossible to plan everything,
Easily driven insane by that endeavour.

The people look at me and sneer,
Contempt within their pitch and tone,
They count coins and notes all day,
A long slog at which they moan.

But I am free to walk where I wish,
Drifting from place to place,
Smiling at the paradise found
As I gaze upon your pretty face.

Perhaps I have found my true home?
Where I can settle with a girl like you,
But sadly I am a drifter deep at heart,
Adieu my love, we'll meet in pastures new.

Hello and welcome to PiP.
Your debut poem is excellent in the reading showing good poetic balance.
Enjoy your time on here - I have been posting only a short while but there is encouragement in plenty. I hope you have the same experience.

That's really amazing. Wonderful stuff. It starts of with something totally different than what i first thought it was about. Totally puts a different spin on it when you read the last paragraph. Can't wait to read more.
