My Long Ago Home Please Click Link above to hear music and my voice recording. Music: Castle Gwynn” by Arlene Faith From the album entitled: River of Dreams Artist: Max Weber My Long Ago Home by Linda L. Dowd The dampness of the cool, autumn air, Musty smells of lichens and loam, Ochres and russets of high rolling hills, Remind me of my long ago home. ~ Mighty oaks in all of their splendor, Rich browns of sedges and briar, Denim blue skies span lochs and the highlands, Forests ringing with magpie choir. The earthy smell of fall’s leafy ground, The pungent smoke of a hardwood fire, Fond memories are stirred of simpler times, Back home in the quaint, country shire. ~ Sheep grazing on emerald hillsides, Pipes echoing thru’ dales and tors, Peregrines circling cerulean skies, Purple heather blanketing moors. Hares scamper o’er dew-laden grass Buck and doe stand in silence by stream Trout leap from sparkling, clear waters As I raptly look on in day dream. ~ Bluebells lining floors of woodlands, Meadows teeming with bracken and thistles Grouse roaming soft carpets of peat moss Woods ringing with birdsong and whistles. The dampness of the cool autumn air, Musty smells of lichens and loam, Ochres and russets of the high rolling hills, Remind me of my long ago home. ~ [This message has been edited by Earth Angel (09-03-2008 02:35 PM).] |

This is a wistfully nostalgic poem - I assume that 'your long ago home' is Scotland and your words and reading do justice to a beautiful country. |

the picture reminds me of Beatrix Potter's cabin in the lake district, but the words do remind me of the misty Scot highlands sweet soft and full of dew |

While reading your beautifully evocative words (without your voice in this moment, will listen later), I automatically began to breathe deeper and felt like immersing in this peaceful almost otherworldly atmosphere ... An absolutely captivating write, dear Linda Angelo Terrestre! Wish I could step into the picture, which is very lovely too! Love and hugs. Margherita "Love is the One who masters all things; |

Yo dear Linda, When I was working, I used to do a lot of engineering consultation in Scotland. It's a lovely place, and I have many old friends there. You should visit Scotland. I even liked the haggis. Love Bobby |

Hi, Linda! I'd like to think I too had a long ago home like that. In fact I think I probably did because I long for the peace depicted in your words. Even now here at 3.10am the traffic is a-buzz. Was awoken with a call from my youngest son who is presently touring Portland but I'm glad to have this opportunity of reading your pulling words. Oh, Scotland is great but for South Africans the weather is a bit hard to take. Love Helen |

Bunches of Honey ~ Hi, Honey! I gather from your reply that you are 6 hours ahead of where I live in Canada. It is almost 9 AM here so it must be going on 3 PM there. So I say to you, "Good Afternoon!" and to me you could say, "Good Morning!" So your son is touring Portland! Have you ever visited the U.S.? I can imagine that you are eagerly awaiting his safe return. No matter the age of our children, the protective mother hen is alive and well in us! lol Love you too! Linda |

Dear Linda, now I listened to your sweet voice and the music, and now I feel this peace even stronger, but also a touch of melancholy. I do long for such places where one can experience nature and serenity, as if immersed in a distant past. Such a pleasure to experience this with you. Love and hugs. A couple of years ago, I had the joy of visiting Scotland... you captured so well the feelings of belonging in a place I'd never been. This is the first time I've been able to listen as well as read... and hearing your voice just adds to the beauty! *S* Excellent! |

suthern One ~ I'm so pleased that you were finally able to hear one of my audio recordings. I take great pains in selecting the perfect music to accompany my poem ~ then I have to fit the words into the melody. It is a labour of love! I must make a point of actually going to Scotland instead of just talking and writing about it! lol Loveya! Linda |

Linda, if you go to Scotland, may I stow away? You fill this poem with the magic of aromas and textures, and, of course, with your very own fullness of heart. I recently went to a Celtic fair. Such a passionate people are the Scots, but your poem would make any of them proud. You bring me back to some of my own childhood memories, of where my grandparents lived in the Grand Ronde Valley of Oregon. It was much like that in early mornings...you could smell the earth.
