Why can’t he understand that I cannot hate Instead I can only find the strength to forgive That for me to hold on to so much hurt Would take from me a passion I need to live I can only hold on to memories that are good To times when things weren’t oh so bad That if I stayed in the place with all that pain It only would keep me forever betrayed and sad So the answers I choose are to hold on to the light To have faith that things turn as they must I live with a hope that life will turn out alright And allow the rest to turn from rock hard to dust He cannot understand how I can remember things better From a person who brought me so much heartache The answers I have is that in letting go I find the strength from which I must take I realize that in ending a life shared by two Doesn’t mean you can find blame for only one And that although his anger and fury was not right There is no way to make the past undone I look to horizons and dry up my tears And remember a life that I and another had shared Not with the anger he wants me to have But knowing that once each of us cared And though it is over and we both have moved on That doesn’t erase what once we both knew In a life so different from the one I live now There were happy moments shared by two I recognize we are over and done Yet I don’t regret what we shared the same And it isn’t as easy as signing a paper Or restoring my life without his name Why can’t he understand that though I love him It doesn’t erase who I loved before And that I refuse to hold onto the hurt Instead I just gently close the door… I would rather my words fall upon deaf ears than a closed mind... |

MiChelle, You have most beautifully expressed a feeling that I long have held. It is a shame for people to forget all the love they shared when they break up. Yes, it is painful to remember - but it also is an affirmation that time was not wasted. And people have value as a couple and as people who can no longer live together. I am rambling, I think. But, thank you for sharing your very wise words. Alison |

I agree with Alison and isn't it great to write something down and really gather your thoughts together following a break-up. I thought this was very real and human. Enjoyed |

Michelle~ Oh, you said so much here~ 'Why can’t he understand that though I love him It doesn’t erase who I loved before And that I refuse to hold onto the hurt Instead I just gently close the door…' I am very much like you on this line of thinking ... all of the used-to-be's in our lives were there for a reason~ We do our present loves a favor by forgiving those from the past who may have hurt us~ ![]() Continue to treasure the good memories~ It is so good to see you~ *Huglets* ![]() ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |
