THE ELEPHANT MAN For those who missed The Elephant Man When it was on TV You should make a point to see it, See how bad life can be. A quirk of nature, twist of fate, Sad beyond compare. Don't look away, put it aside, For it could be you that's there. No guarantee of normalcy From the day we're born. Always a chance you could be he, One people tease and scorn. Not run of the mill, but, different, Maybe short, fat or tall: Not the same as everyone else, You're the lucky one. that's all. But is that so. being a sheep, Is that what life’s about To be one of the lucky ones That never does without. Without compassion, understanding, Unwilling to share: To think that you are better, Unable to care. If so, I do pity you, For you are the real freak; Empty inside, sick and low, Pitiful and weak. If you can't see the other side, Put yourself in their shoes One day the time will come for you When you must pay your dues. So take an hour, even a minute, To help those who need a hand, Don't pity them, just try to help, And try to understand. Del "Abe" Jones Mankind's greatest accomplishment is not the revolution of technology, it is the evolution of creativity. |

I too agree, we complain about our woes, but there are many who are far worse off then we are. I went to school with a boy who had that same disease, he was the nicest boy you could ever meet... We cried when he died - he fell down the stairs. I wrote a poem, it's called "Got It Pretty Good" - its written on the sames lines as this - stating I got it better than some of those others. Great Write. |

Abe, Your last strophe sums it up well. I like the idea of this. Bobby |
