Back when the days were always Long and sunny. And 'Scooby Doo' was often funny And my nose was usually runny And about money We never needed to worry. The highlight of my day Was when the home-time bell rang And it was time to play. I usually ran round my friend's house to eat tea Which was always a special treat for me 'Cause there was never any brocolli And we never had to think About doing what was right Being quiet and polite 'Behaviour' didn't seem to be the operative word Being seen and not heard We were allowed to be loud And to scream and shout Who knows what we'd talk about? It didn't really matter You know how children like to natter. it was probably things like... I dunno, working out how old we'd be At the turn of the century... '26' '26?' 'Crumbs!' We had to re-do our sums Using all of our fingers And both of our thumbs That just seemed so impossibly And omminously Far away. Too far away, We still had a lot of time And a lot of games to play. No time for overthinking About the shapes Our futures might take Far too long to wait And speculate About which roads down which We were to be driven Our futures, Wives and lives, Children, livlihoods, Mortgages All those things Were just a 'given'. 'Cause this all seems a long time past Before the days started whizzing by In the blinking of an eye And the sky seems sometimes Overcast... |

Simon, This works so well. It takes me back. Most of out time was spent sitting on the settlement house steps, and telling big lies to each other. It was fun. Bobby |

Simon I am delighted to have been the catalyst for this. It is amazing & having admired all of your work to date, I have to say I consider this to be your finest piece yet. It strikes so many chords with me (especially the broccoli !) I can identify with every line you wrote. Good job my friend.....You nailed it. ![]() Cheers John |

No offence, but can people stop conversing in Spanish here cause, I probably should, but I don't fully understand. Margherita, thanx for your horrible picture, it reminds me of why I hate brocolli so... |

Simon I meant to post an apology here for going off at a tangent with Margherita, I should have e mailed her with my tongue in cheek response rather than hijacking your post....sorry! To translate: I said if we have to eat the broccoli, she has to send us both some home made tiramisu....BTW, it is Italian & not Spanish...check out babelfish.com for the free on line translator, it can be fun & useful, again my apologies....
