. Do I remember? Yes, I recall When summers lasted forever And life was such a ball It seemed almost as if The days would never end As I happily played With my best friends I wonder where they are now And if they look back on the past With fond memories Of summers long past That is assuming They have survived And also remember The time of our lives . It's funny how when we are in the moment, that we don't realize how precious that time is, until later when we wish we could go back to carefree days of our youth! ~ARH You know you're in love, when you can't fall asleep, because reality is finally better than your dream~Dr.Seuss |

Oh, memory, in a touch of time, will be soon gone. But it is the feeling of happiness that is forever living with us. Beautiful. |

Most wonderful, John. Some of my most precious memories of times I spent with friends when I was a little girl. I really enjoyed this. Alison |

This strikes a chord within my own heart. Usually I am not pondering the past, but there come some moments when I wonder just the way you do so beautifully here, dear John. I wouldn't want to go back though! Just for glimpses maybe, yes. And I strongly wish I knew about the lives of some souls that accompanied me for a short span of time ... What a lovely picture with your sweet little daughter! Thank you for sharing this photo with us. Love Margherita |

ARH & Tom You are both so right..... Alison Glad you enjoyed, they were fun times weren’t they Poddarku Glad you could relate, from India to infinity, it seems we all long for the “ Good Old Days....” RDB I certainly do. And you know, knowing what I now do about the past and how the ‘here & now’ has a habit of slipping away before we had chance to savour it for what it was, I try to ensure that during the process of creating future memories for Rhiannon to look back on in 30 years time, that we enjoy the here & now as it unfolds........ Margherita I would go back like a shot, but only on condition I knew then what I know now.....if only hindsight was an exact science...* sigh* As for the souls in the poem, I recently met up with one who had been in Australia for 20 years & during our trip back in time, He told me that 1 of our closet pals had died 5 years previously. He only lived 200 miles for me & I did not know....I wish I had not found out as it brings a kind of finality to the dreams of yesteryear if that makes sense? Glad you liked the picture, the building you can just see behind us is our house, it is an old rail workers cottage built in 1850....& this may not mean anything to you, but we are about 3 miles from an old US base ( Burtonwood) Thank you all for the kind responses John |

Awww, yes, the memories. Your poem has made me feel somewhat nostalgic as I recall the years with my best childhood ~ to teens ~ friend. We had lost touch for 35 years. I recently decided to see if I could locate her through the internet ~ and I did! Her name had even changed because she had gotten married, however, she has lead an outstanding life and had made many a newspaper headline. She had moved thousands of miles away from our home town. Anyhoo, I emailed her and we re-connected. She sadly informed me that her mother (whom I had always referred to as my "second Mom") had recently passed away. I started recounting all my memories of her and my friend said that most of what I said, she had either forgotten or didn't even know of because they had been between her Mom and me. Well as it turned out, I ended up writing a great deal of the eulogy that she was going to be giving at the funeral. Divine intervention was at play in bringing us together at a time when she needed me most. Sorry for the long-winded reply, but that often happens when a poem strikes a strident chord in my heart. With love, Linda |

John~ Ah, friendships ... the circles of time that spin us in and out of special moments~ Then ... if we are fortunate ... they spin us once more together~ I enjoy a pleasant ride on the friendship-memory train~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

Ida ~ Glad you enjoyed, I guess for those of us lucky enough to be able to relate to the good old days have more to be thankful for than we realise.... Simon, Wish I could agree (see above) I am afraid there are too many out there who have no desire to look back because of the pain the memories rekindle ... Artic W, Thanks.... Linda.... No apology needed, I am happy to have been the one to deliver the blow that struck the chord, how nice for you 2 to hook up again after so long. Just a pity it was in such sad circumstances but fate must have been in your favour to find her. I hope you have stayed in touch? Marge, Glad you enjoyed the trip. I hope you got a frequent user pass & will make the trip for many years to come... Thanks again for the replies..... John |

You reinforce my melancholy suspicion-all we are is our memories. And when they're gone, so are we. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

like I said before I will be reading more of your work... you have the talent of a professional poet. Have You Ever Thought Of Writing for a greeting card company? I think you would do very well. |

Lynn Thanks for the reply & the praise, there are far better writers than me on here and yes, I know, everyone feels that the stuff they do is just Ok & not really that good. I am happy with the stuff I put up here & am always delighted to get such wonderful comments. This initially was the reason for my posting on this site. However as you will yourself find if you stick around, the Pip family have a way of becoming good friends, it kind of sneaks up on you without you realising & then when you do, it's too late !! Then you end up like me spending hours at a time reading, replying & worse, trying to come up with something as good as the 1 you just read or better than the last one you wrote.... Finally, yes I have thought about writing for greeting cards but have no idea how to go about it...(Tomtoo et al will now either point me right to the site or tell me to google it ) Thanks again & keep posting Regards John "Ignorance is the Enemy...." |

What a lovely reminicing poem and isn't it great to have good memories. In the last years of our life memories are often the only things we have left. Treasure them John and may you live many more years to enjoy them. Lindsay |
