Florida's Foreverly Shores

It Just Rolls On Forever
~*Marge Tindal*~

Sometime when you're lonely and you have no place to go
take my hand, take my hand and walk with me
I will lead you across this heartland, where the soft, soft breezes blow
from the hillsides of Kentucky to the windblown caves of Idaho

Through the beautiful land of Arizona, down the banks of Carolina
North and South the roots that bring us home, serving to remind you
We will set our feet onred, red Georgia clay
fragrant sweet with magnolia where homespun breezes softly play

Follow the Suwannee flowing south, to the Florida everglades
Where the ghost of Osceola, stands Cypress knee-deep in history
Edge the shorelines of sweet Alabama, rolling with the Tide
Take a tour of Rock and Roll fame on the streets of Tennessee

Stroll the open fields of Virginia, where you can hear them say
Sister state of West 'By God' Virginia, USA

Maine upon the water, a lobster in every pot
Old Vermont of forget-me-not in history made that day
New Hampshire boasts of fishing ports along the Dover bank
Massachusetts holds such history of our days of old
Rhode Island tucked right in along the Atlantic shore

Turn right at the corner where you can hear them say
"What did Delaware, boys ?"... each and every day

Washington, DC ... small enough stamp to lick
Then you'll find Connecticut - proudly on display
Maryland, O' Maryland sung with pride once more
We'll travel Pennsylvania our where pride sits on historic bay
The turnpikes of New Jersey all along the way

In New York ... catch a show or two just off old Broadway
Take in the country side of Ohio, softly on display
Where the ghost of Woody Hayes still runs up the score
Over to the farmland spread with Wisconsin cheese abounding
Michigan, my Michigan the wildlife still astounding

Westward to the plains of Kansas and the hills of Oklahoma
where winds repeat in joyous treat of times gone swiftly by
Where Nebraska wends so easily on paths of times in passing
To the South Dakota byways into North Dakota not so far away

Westward into Montana as the sage brush rolls along
Jumping into Washington State as the ice is on the floe
Stately lighthouses keeping watch out across the bay
Through Oregon trails of olden times, history left it's mark

Following goldrushed days into California
It only stands to reason thatNevada would be the next sight
gotta spend the glitter found in those Hollywood lights

Utah is mighty pretty at the end of a perfect day
In the roaming of Wyoming a cowpoke could find a home
Those Colorado peaks glow with such appeal
New Mexico where they still have lots of zeal

Right on down to Texas, where they tell it like it is
except to make it bigger ... lots of times more than it is

Into Louisiana where the Cajuns start to sway
Banjo sitting on my knee, I begin to play
Up into Arkansas along the trails of yesterday
Slipping down the Mississippi on steamboat memories
Stop in old Missouri for a foot-stomping good ole time

Trip into Illinois where history is abundant
Indiana greets the morning fair in smiles along the way
On the lakes of Minnesota where we slowly begin to unwind
Iowa on the way - now we've not long to stay

Oh please wait my friend ... for we've further yet to go
Across the blue of ocean to Hawaii the land of flowering dreams
That still leaves Alaska where history is being made today

All across this heartland - friends in sweet accord
Take my hand, take my hand and walk my way
Home Sweet Home ... Home Sweet Home
The Good Old USA

Marge

What a wonderful surprise to come here tonight and see that you had posted a poem again!  You thrilled me.  It's like a gift that you have given us all on this 4th of July eve (in Alaska, it's still 'eve').

Then your poem !  What a treat!  You did it, my friend.  You nailed this one and brought us all into the folds of your heart.  Yes, I looked for my home state and there it was!  Not to be forgotten in your tribute to our country.

I am always proud to be American and, Marge, I am always proud to post poetry on the same board as you.

With love to you,
Alison

Dear Marge, what an exceptionally beautiful tribute to your Nation! You really put your heart into this.

So good to see you posting! The blue pages without you do lack a pilaster...

Love and hugs.

So good to see you posting. This is tremendous! Must have taken a lot of research to get this to come out correctly.
And my dear friend, how are you feeling?
Love you, Marti

Thank you, Marge. On Memorial Day there was not one post or reference to our soldiers, past and present. On this Independence Day yours is the only tribute to our country. One must assume that it is now politically incorrect to be proud of our nation.

Bless you for your political incorrectness
